I walked into work and was told to go home. Nobody would tell me anything.

Most employment is "at will". This means that a company can set the conditions of the workplace much as it sees fit. This includes when and why to terminate a worker. In fact, an employee can be discharged for any reason or no reason at all, with or without notice. This exceptions to this would be if you have an employment contract or union agreemnt that provides otherwise or your treatment constitues a form of legally actionable discrimination (but you did not indicate that to be the case).
