Can child support be modified to be 5 or 10 times higher if the salary has less than doubled?

Child support that was determined to be $200 a month based on a yearly salary of $28,000 about 9 years ago. It is now being modified to reflect a current salary of $50,000. Is it possible the child support could go up to over $1000 a month or more for 1 child?

Generally speaking, child support is determined through a statutory formula likely close to those used around the country. And a modification is generally allowed when there is a change in circumstances. Here the increase in salary is a change in circumstances.  How much it will increase depends on the salary of both parents.  You need to have the paperwork requesting the increase reviewed by an attorney in your area.  Good luck.
