Can my employer send me home even though work is available because he was upset I called him at 5:00 am to telling him that we were on the way to a job?

I was told I couldn’t use my vacation time to fill this void of no work.

In an at-will work relationship, a company can set the terms and conditions of employment as it sees fit. This inlcudes whose hours to cut and why. Therefore, unless you have an employment contract, union agreement or company policy that states otherwise, I'm afraid that you are out of luck.
