Whether you will receive alimony is based on a case-by-case basis as agreed by the parties or at the court's discretion.
Many factors are considered in determining if alimony is necessary, including the following:
- earning capacity of the parties;
- sources of income of both parties;
- length of the marriage;
- assets and liabilities of the parties;
- needs of the parties.
So you may or may not lose alimony just because you have a housemate to help with your living expenses. The court will consider the above and other factors when making that determination.
