Can a lawyer represent you in a harassment protection order if you live out of state?

My ex-husband put a harassment
protection order against me to stop me
from finding out information and the
amount of Equity of our house. The
protection orders he couldn’t play
states that he can still talk to me but
I not allowed to talk to him or the loan
officer or the title company about our
home. He also set a court date 5 days
after the protection order Court to
compel me to sign my rights over for the
equity in the house. I live out of state
and I’m trying to find out if I hired a
lawyer could they go to court in my
place so I don’t have to come to
Washington.

Unfortunately, if there are any factual issues, you will have to be present, too. A lawyer cannot testify as to the facts of the situation (though he or she can argue the law or legal issues) for the simple reason that the attorney has no personal (1st hand) knowledge of the facts. For anything that would require your knowledge, you have to be there to testify.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: The Answer(s) provided above are for general information only. The attorney providing the answer was not serving as the attorney for the person submitting the question or in any attorney-client relationship with such person. Laws may vary from state to state, and sometimes change. Tiny variations in the facts, or a fact not set forth in a question, often can change a legal outcome or an attorney's conclusion. Although AttorneyPages.com has verified the attorney was admitted to practice law in at least one jurisdiction, he or she may not be authorized to practice law in the jurisdiction referred to in the question, nor is he or she necessarily experienced in the area of the law involved. Unlike the information in the Answer(s) above, upon which you should NOT rely, for personal advice you can rely upon we suggest you retain an attorney to represent you.
