You don't indicate why they feel you owe them money, but if it is for breach of a contract whether written or oral, or for an agreement to provide services or products, or for a promissory note or loan agreement, then they have up to six 6 years in your state to sue you for the money, which effectively defines how long 6 years they can keep trying to collect, since once they are out of time to sue, you can ignore them. But if 4 years have passed, the should still have another 2 years.
