Am I eligible for underemployment?
My company lost a government contract to another company. I am a union member and my hours will drop from 40 per week to 24 hours per (1200 per year). Will I be able to collect underemployment benefits?

What you are asking is if you can get partial unemployement for the reduction in your hours. California is one of the states that allows a person to apply for unemployment when their hours are reduced, but it all boils down to how much they are making with the reduction in hours.
Also, California employers have the ability to opt for work share or short time compensation program and entitlement to partial unemployment benefits is determined on the wages you earn each week and how much less you are earning. Whereas work share or short tiime is based upon the hours you work. So you need to check with your employer and then you should try and file for unemployment. But you need to also check with your union as to their policy as well. Good luck.
