I called him and he said he wanted to talk to me in regards to our retail theft in his city. He wants me to come in and talk to him tonight.

Do you think that there is *any* chance that the police  think you committed a crime? (It is unclear from "our retail theft in his city" whether you committed the theft or it was stolen from a store you own or manage--i.e. it's unclear whether you are the perpetrator or the victim.) If so, then definitely retain an attorney before speaking to the police--do not say anything to them except on your attorney's advice. Only if you are confident that you are just the victim of or witness to a crime and there is no way the police could think otherwise would you speak to them without speaking first with a lawyer.
