If a friend of mine borrowed my car without permission, totaled it and was arrested for DUI and damage to public property, can I be held liable?
I was at home sleeping when they took my car. Unbeknownst to me the vehicle had no insurance. Now I am receiving bills addressed to me and the driver for the amount owed for the damage to property. The driver has since vanished and discontinued contact with me. Am I liable? Can I sue? What do I do?

it's not clear how it can be your car and you not know it was uninsured. Since there is no insurance the plaintiff will sue both you and your friend. you will likely have to sue your friend as well. And your friend will likely claim they had your permission. .
