9 Month Contracts
Hello, I work at the local college in Texas under a nine month contract, usually Aug 15 to May 15. I don’t write grants or do research.I am now told that I must check my email regularly and come in for mandatory training during the three month period I am not under contract. Do I have a responsibility to do this? Thanks for your help.

Unless this action violates your employment contract (you will need to check it) or any appicable union or collective bargaining agreement, training on your time off is legal. At least so o long as your treatement does not constitute some form of legally actionable discrimination. That having been said, you must be paid for your training time as it is considered to be compensable work time.
