The Bottom Line

Excellent customer service, a wide range of insurance options, financial strength, and community involvement. Those are the top ways State Farm stands above the rest.

While State Farm is an excellent choice for many people, it’s important to remember that different insurance companies may specialize in various types of insurance or have a stronger presence in certain regions, so it’s always a good idea to shop around and compare different insurance providers before deciding.

From auto and home insurance to financial services and more, State Farm has a wide range of products and services to meet the needs of its customers.

State Farm is the #1 insurance provider in the United States, and it’s easy to see why. This company has been around for over 100 years and has built a reputation for being the go-to choice for millions of Americans, but what exactly sets State Farm apart from its competitors?

According to an insurance business magazine, State Farm owns 9.3% of the market share in the United States. That may not sound like much, but that’s $65 billion in revenue coming into the company, so it’s a significant share. They rank alongside Progressive, Berkshire Hathaway, and other well-known companies, but State Farm dominates the industry.

Is State Farm Insurance a Good Choice?

Founded in 1922 by George Jacob Mecherle in Illinois as a mutual auto insurance company, State Farm was originally a single-line auto insurance company. Now the company has over 100 services and products and insures more homes and cars than any other insurance company in the United States.

The company is ranked #44 on the Fortune 500 list, with 65,000 employees and 18,000 agents. It has over 80 million policies and accounts, and its bank has over $15 billion in assets.

Here are the main factors that set State Farm apart.

State Farm’s Excellent Customer Service

State Farm stands out because of its focus on customer service. The company has a vast network of agents spread across the country, so policyholders can easily find an agent near them to help with any questions or concerns.

It is also important to note that State Farm operates as an agency-built company. That means that the company relies on a network of independent agents to sell and service its insurance policies.

This business model gives State Farm a unique advantage over its competitors, allowing the company to have a local presence in communities across the United States.

State Farm’s Wide Range of Insurance Options

Another reason State Farm is a top choice among consumers is its vast selection of insurance types and coverage plans.

This provider offers a variety of insurance products for both individuals and businesses, including auto and home insurance, life and health insurance, and much more. They do it all.

This means that whatever your insurance needs are, State Farm has you covered. They provide boat, life, home, commercial, and pet insurance, among many others, and have significantly impacted the market through their agencies.

They understand that every customer is unique, and they offer a variety of insurance products to fit every lifestyle and budget, from auto, home, life, and health insurance to provide comprehensive coverage for all your needs.

State Farm’s Financial Strength

When it comes to insurance companies, financial strength is crucial. After all, you want to make sure that the company you’re entrusting with your protection has the resources to pay out claims in the event of a disaster. And that’s exactly what makes State Farm stand out from the rest.

State Farm is financially strong and well-capitalized, with deep pockets and a solid financial foundation. This gives policyholders peace of mind, knowing that their insurance provider has the resources to pay out claims even in the event of a major catastrophe.

Think of it this way: the foundation is the most crucial part of building a house. Without a solid foundation, the house can’t stand. Similarly, an insurance company can’t stand the test of time without a strong financial foundation.

And that’s why State Farm has invested in building a solid financial foundation to ensure they can weather any storm and be there for their customers when they need them the most.

But State Farm doesn’t just have a strong financial foundation they also have a long-term vision. They have been around for over a century and plan to be around for over a hundred more. This is why they are constantly working to maintain their financial strength and stability, to continue to provide the best possible service to their policyholders for years to come.

State Farm’s Commitment to the Community

State Farm is not just an insurance provider it’s a company that genuinely cares about the communities it serves. The company strongly focuses on community involvement and giving back, which is one of the things that sets it apart from other insurance providers.

State Farm is actively involved in charitable causes, supporting education, and promoting safety. The company is committed to positively impacting the communities where it operates and does this through various initiatives and programs. For example, State Farm’s “Good Neighbor Citizenship” program encourages and supports volunteerism, disaster preparedness, and community development efforts.

Additionally, State Farm is a strong supporter of education and has various scholarships and grants available to students. They also have programs that promote financial literacy and help students plan for their future.

State Farm also puts a lot of effort into promoting safety on the road, at home, and in the community. They have campaigns and programs that educate the public about traffic safety, fire safety, and other safety-related topics.

I had an accident a while back and they got my car fixed at a location THEY recommended. I had it fixed (according to the location) and I left just fine. Exactly one year later I’m starting to have issues with my car and after a few discoveries, I knew it stemmed from that accident. I called State Farm and they had me take it to get looked at and go from there. I took it to a collision center and waited for my car to get looked at. It has been a mess from there and I had no car for about a month! In that month it was full of no communication from their end, and no responsibility and accountability over something I was 100% sure stemmed from that accident, seeing as my car was perfectly fine before. I have received mostly bad customer service from workers there who spoke to me with little patience, condescending tones and if I was a disturbance, as if I haven’t been a loyal customer for YEARS. Everyone who was helping me with this case outside of the state farm team has been super helpful and patient because they understand how much of a stress this can be to someone. In the end I had two different people come out to estimate my car, the second time me being there to help them understand what they need to be looking at. The estimator the second time even saw defects the previous people who fixed my car had done. I’m the end, they still didn’t believe it was from this, but instead because this was originally a salvage vehicle so it MUST be from that. Ignoring the fact that my car was perfectly fine beforehand and had no issues with ANYTHING, including getting it aligned. Distraught, I had to drive an unsafe vehicle for a week, clutching at the wheel and hoping I can make it to and from my destinations, until I had a body shop guy look at my car and see what was going on. I took it today and he said, just as I imagined, the entire issue was from the side where (shock!) the accident occurred! The left side was fine. As soon as I fix the right side, my car should be fine. The previous people who had my car literally destroyed my vehicle and even caused me to have a what could have been deadly accident where my tire split, and State Farm simply backed them up (not to mention that place closed so that shows how “reputable” they were) instead of supporting a loyal customer for years. We pay hundreds to insurance companies a month and the rare times we need them to use the money we give them, they treat us like crap and take no responsibility for taking us to a place that don’t fix my car and almost had me killed. I’m not even typing out all the small details on this issue and look how long this review had to be! Truly I may just switch insurances because this has been such a horrible experience and I hope the next place actually cares about their customers. “Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there”? Lmao if they were my “good neighbors”, I’d close my blinds and ignore them if they rang my doorbell to come over…

Horrendous Property Department service. Don't use State Farm

Instead of helping me to figure out a way to reduce costs, [REDACTED NAME], a representative in their Property department kept reading their standard clauses in front of her to me like a 10 year old student reciting a textbook. When asking to talk to her manager, she rejected my request right away. Instead, she called back later and said she did talk to the manager and rejected the claim of covering my transmission and happily send a rejection letter to me. It sounds like she wi take some credits for rejecting a legitimate claim on her resume.

Pray you never get hit by someone with statefarm. I was hit in August and still haven't received compensation. They will tell you one thing and it be completely different the next. Everyone is very unprofessional and disorganized. Telling me I'll have my money soon then Telling me "oh no one has reviewed it" while multiple people have opened the documents but no ones ok-ing things. Shocked at service

Just shocked! Been with the company for 12+ years, hit something in my yard, filed a claim, and have yet to hear from a claim agent. I had to reach out myself and did the estimate picture assessment, which was supposed to be 24 to 48 hours, but haven't heard from anyone. Been four days, lack of concern for the customer, I guess that don't have the proper staff, not sure, guessing here. Nothing like what they used to be.

Long story short, I had been a loyal State Farm customer for about 30 years. They recently started giving me a hard time because I like to buy different cars, as I'm an auto enthusiast. I recently rented a vehicle for a family trip and had a minor not-at-fault accident. My agent flat refused to take the claim, first alleging that I HAD TO file with the other insurance company. I declined, and she then told me I had to report the claim online. I tried to do that, but was told I couldn't because it was a rental car. I had to call a 800 number. I did so and was told the process takes 20 minutes and the hold time was 25 minutes. I called my agent back and she again refused to help. Needless to say, I have moved to a different carrier as of a few days ago. I am in the same line of work as State Farm, and have been for 25 years. I am deeply familiar with the auto insurance world and the claims process. This level of service is utterly unacceptable and I would NEVER allow such things to occur with my employer. State Farm, you spend an untold fortune advertising your service on all forms of media. However, your actions don't back up your claims (pun intended). I have also interviewed literally dozens of your staff over the years, if not hundreds, and all say the same thing. A poor place to work. You have a lot of work to do, State Farm.

Back in Jan 2020 (CLMS - 2004G091k) someone from State Farm hit me from behind while driving to work. From the start they claims guy attempted not to fully repair my vehicle claiming all damages were not from the accident. He reviewed the accident site on Google Maps. My car had never been hit or damaged until that day. Fast forward to COVID shut down March 15, 2020 and then being diagnosed with cancer which caused me to stop treatment for neck and back pain from the accident and stay safe at home. I later found a doctor who would treated me for the pain in August 2020. I received his bill which he attempted to turn into the claims department with no success. I then receive the bills which I forwarded to State Farm and I'm told they will not honor them because of the 2 year limitation. The USA was shut down, billing was late, people didn't go to work and so forth. All I asked was to pay a $2,400.00 bill which they didn't pay any of my other bills sent to them. Oh, nor did they pay for the yellow paint and side fender damage on my vehicle either. This is how State Farm treats people their clients hit. I know next time to hire a good lawyer no matter what when hit by a State Farm insured driver.
