My wife and i moved from Mn to Wi about 4 yrs ago. Our agent kept our Mn address as our account address and changed our billing address to Wi . Our agent doesn't have a license for Wi and kept our Mn address so he would not lose the account. We got a notice cacelling our policy because of where we garage our car. Our agent never told us to change agents or that he doesn't have a license for Wi. What can we do to solve our problem? Also Wi and Mn have different premiums and we have been payiny almost doudle the last 4 yrs for the same basic policy. Please help.

It is a shame that your agent was more interested in his income than properly taking care of you, his client.
Even though the insurance was improperly written by him, it did not make your insurance invalid for the time it was in force. Insurance crosses state lines for the protection of the policyholder, so if you had a claim, it would have been honored and you would have been protected. Even though he was not licensed in Wi, that does not affect the insurance, but it could affect his standing with the insurance commisioner in his state and with the insurance company(ies) he represents.
I would recommend that you contact a local agent to obtain insurance in your state. The non renewal should not have any affect on your ability to get insurance, unless there were other reasons for non renewal (tickets, accidents). You still had valid insurance so there is no gap in your insurance coverage.
In the future, I would recommend that if you move, you should contact a local agent as soon as possible to avoid this type of situation again. While there are many agents who can write in multiple states, it is better for you to have a local agent who you can meet with as needed.
