The homeowner insurance policy is insurance protection from “sudden and accidental losses”. It does not cover you for damage due to rodents, termites or similar losses. It is intended to protect you from sudden losses such as a fire, tornado, windstorm, hail, theft. It also provides liability coverage for you in the event you cause an injury to another person. It is not a maintenance policy, which would be the problem you are experiencing. You should contact an exterminator to find a way to keep the rodents out of your home. You might also contct the city officials to see if they can do anything to abate the problem from your neighbors. The neighbors should keep up their property in a proper manner to avoid any problems from their residence spilling over into your home. The neighbors on the other side of them may also be having a problem and may be willing to work with you on obtaining help from your city or town.
