If you allow someone to use your car, and they are a licensed driver, then your insurance policy will cover you for the damages to the other car. Aut insurance follows the car and not the driver. If you have physical damage coverage on your car, or collision coverage, then your policy will pay for the damages to your car, less your deductible. If you do not have collision insurance, and the accident was her fault, you would be on the hook for the damages to your own car. The insurance policy will not cover the car even though someone else was driving your car.Any payments made for the accident, either to the other party or your car will not affect your rates, presuming your girlfriend was not listed on your policy. However, her driving record will be charged for the accident and if she has her own insurance, her rates will most likely go up.
