The order in which you resolve the issue of the vandalism damage to your car is not important. You need to file a police report, and your insurance company will want to you that you did so. You can tell the police who you think may have done the damage, but they may not take an action if there is no proof. You also need to tell your insurance company about the damage so they can start the claim for the repairs. You may not want to offer that you think your ex girlfriend did the damage, unless the police take action. You probably have a deductible for the damage to your car, but it sounds like there is plenty of damage, so the deductible shouldn’t be a problem, unless it is very high. You can choose your own place to get the car repaired. Since this is a comprehensive claim, and not collision, your rates on your insurance policy will not be affected.
