While homeowner insurance companies have different coverages for damages to a home and attached structures, most do include coverage for damage due to weight of ice and snow.If your policy covers the damage the policy deductible will apply to the cost of repairs. Due to the amount of snow the northeast received over this winter with very little breaks in between storms, the insurance companies may classify the storms as “catastrophes”. If they do so any loss that they pay will not count against the homeowner as a loss. This means there will be no possibility that your rates will go up. It is “free” claim.Call your insurance agent or company and discuss the claim and damage with them.They can provide you with more details and can confirm or deny coverage for your loss. I’m sure they have received many calls for similar damage to other homes.
