Company History: Mercury Insurance was founded in 1962 by George Joseph. In 1968, Mercury established a holding company and in 1985 the company converted to public ownership. It began to expand outside of California in 1989 and expanded to offer auto, home and umbrella coverage in 1993. In 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2014 Mercury was named one of America’s Most Trustworthy Companies by Forbes. In 2009 Mercury also purchased AIS (the largest independent insurance agency in the US). The Company employs approximately 4500 individuals.

Auto Business: Mercury is the #1 independent writer of auto insurance and the #5 largest private passenger insurer in California.
Homeowners Business: Mercury insurance offers coverage for: dwelling protection, personal property, extended replacement cost, additional living expenses, personal liability protection, guest medical protection,and identity theft protection. The company offers discounts for: protective devices, fire-resistant construction materials, newer homes, gated communities, and higher deductibles.
