When you are trying to obtain auto insurance from a new insurance company most companies will want a down payment in order to start the insruance policy. If you do not have any money available for a down payment, you will probably have a problem getting a new policy started until you are able to provide the payment. Many insurance companies have a payment plan offer where you would only need to provide one month or two months as the down payment, rather than the full premium for the policy term. If you have an agent you are working with who is local, you should meet with them to see if they can arrange something for you. They may be able to take a check and not deposit it for a day or two, yet start the insurance policy. I doubt if they can hold the check for more than 2 days, but meet with them to see if anything can be arranged.
