If you are licensed as an AH&L producer in the state of Florida ( or any state for that matter ), it is completely up to you as to which carriers you want to represent.  If you are on your own, you will most likely have to work through another broker.  Some people choose to be dedicated agents, meaning they work for one insurance company ( United, Farmers, Anthem, State Farm, Allstate, etc. ).  Others work through brokers or become brokers and represent multiple carriers.  Get on the state DOI site for Florida and look at licensing requirements for producers.  It’s not that difficult to get through.

Each carrier may have it’s own requirements for selling their products, and you can decide which ones you want to sell and which ones you don’t.  If you decide to sell one certain product line, you can do that.  If you want to sell ten different product lines, you can do that, too.  You can sell as many as you can be appointed to sell. 

Depending on the area you live in, you might want to check out the other companies’ products for your market segment, too.  Never hurts to have a plan B, C or even D.
