I rented a truck, was told I was completely insured with their premium insurance. I hit a tree and damaged the roof, now they say I am liable. They say anything above the windshield is not insured. it says this in very fine print on the contract I signed-- the paper indicating the mileage, how much gas was in the tank, whatver dings were there when i drove it away, etc. Nobody mentioned this to me, I bought their premium insurance and they said I was completely covered. Now they want $6,000.00 from me, which i don't have close to having, not sure how to proceed.

You didn’t mention if you owned a car or have full coverage car insurance for your vehicle. If so, there should be replacement car coverage for the rental car under your auto insurance. Speak with your agent or insurance company. Also, read our article entitled Rental Car Insurance and Collision Damage Waiver (CDW). This may help explain a little more about the rental car company’s so-called insurance. When you paid for the rental car, did you pay with a credit card? Many credit car companies provide rental car insurance once the cost of the rental car is purchased with that card. If so, call your credit card company immediately! This will help them get on the claim right away. Most rental car companies do their due diligence to make sure that you have insurance while driving their vehicle. Did they give you the option of purchasing insurance coverage that covered the entire vehicle? Seems like the told you that this did but did not offer the total insurance coverage. If you find that they indeed have total insurance coverage and that was not offered to you, I suggest you contact an attorney. Many lawyers will consult with you free of charge.
