Insurance Question from Lowell, MA

Asked on 03/16/2012

How can I get the correct amount for a damaged wheel? My car was damaged in September 2011 in a hit & run. I filed through the other driver's insurance company for my damaged wheel & have spent the last 6 months trying to get the right amount approved. The appraiser wrote for a smaller wheel first, then another that doesn't match my current wheels. How can I get what I'm owed without having to miss more time from work & go back to the body shop?

It is unfortunate you are having this problem with the adjuster to replace your damaged wheel. It may be best if you can go online and find the same wheel that you currently have on your car. Print out the page describing the item and the value. Then call the adjuster and offer to email or fax him a copy of the wheel, its description and cost. If you can’t do this, talk to a tire & wheel company locally and see if they can help you find the wheel & maybe they can talk to the adjuster. This really is the work the adjuster should be doing, but this may speed up the problem. If the adjuster does not cooperate with you, ask to speak to a supervisor. The adjuster may not want to do this, but you have the right to speak to them if you are not getting satisfaction from the adjuster. Also, if you have an agent, they may be able to help you get the adjuster to speed up the settlement for the wheel.
