We cancelled a policy and continued to be billed for said policy for 5 years. Should our premiums be refunded as we were being covered by a new policy The cancellation request was confirmed by ADP and was supposed to be sent to Travellers. Now they only want to give us back some of our $$ because we were negligent in paying the policy that we cancelled.

The homeowner insurance policy that is set up with automatic payments expects you, the insured party, to continue to pay as long as the policy is in force. Even though you cancelled the policy and advised the payment end, you should have sent notice to the insurance company too.If you did so, the insurance company has some responsibility to refund some of the premiums, but you had a responsibility too. The insurance company would have sent you renewal declarations each year confirming the new coverage and premium. When you received these you should have contacted the insurance company that the policy should have been cancelled and provided the date it was to be cancelled. Since you apparently disregarded the renewal notices, you are responsible that the premiums continued to be paid.You may want to contact the ADP entity to see if they will accept some responsibility for the continued payment, but it will not refund the total payment made.
