Homeowners insurance claims they sent us a letter in Sept 2016 stating we had to mitigate specific items. We never received said letter. Was notified by insurance end of June 2017 that our policy would be dropped July 21, 2017 Our insurance company states they sent us a letter in September of 2016 listing items to address on our property by July 2017. When I found out about this in June of 2017, I called the insurance company and informed them we did not receive the letter in September and received no other notification of this issue until June 2017. This essentially gave us one month to address many issues on this property. Can the insurance company do this without proof that they delivered this letter (EX: certified mail) without offering us an extension? Had we actually received the letter in September, we could have addressed the issues.

Insurance companies are not required to send notices by certified copy unless required by the state to do so. If you have an agent, they too should have received the information requiring the information and usually would follow up. However unless you have had issues receiving mail from your insurance company it is unlikely they will offer much assistance.

Hopefully, you have already started working on the issues presented by the insurance company. You should call your agent or insurance company again and ask if you start the work required if they will give you additional time to make the repairs or requirements requested. This is your best bet since you will have trouble finding replacement insurance if there are issues regarding the condition of the home or area.  If you have already completed any of the issues, make a point to tell them what you have already done and what you are currently doing. This may help you receive an extension of time to complete all items.
