If you hire a tutor to come to your home to teach your child, your homeowner policy will protect you for liability claims by the tutor. If the tutor is injured on your residence, due to your negligence, the insurance company will protect you and pay for injuries. An example of liability would be if the person were injured in a fall at your residence, or if your pet were to injure them. The tutor would not be considered an employee of yours so would not be eligible for any workers compensation benefits if they are injured. The tutor should be aware that if they cause any damage or injury to you or your family, their insurance may cover them. There is an exclusion for intentional acts or sexual assault on a child or adult. You may want to be sure the tutor has at least personal liability under a homeowner or renters insurance policy.
