Insurance Question from Chappaqua, NY

Asked on 06/07/2010

Can you give me a list of insurance companies that will insure buried oil tanks from leaking? I have had my oil tank tested with a blow test and surrounding soil boring tests. All tests were negative for oil leaks. I want to buy insurance that is transferrable to purchasers of this home when I sell it so I will not have to dig it up. Can you recommend companies that provide this insurance?

Not having ever dug one of these up myself, I’ve never had to worry about it, but a little googling comes up with several links that should get you going in the right direction:

The first link is a company in NY that looks like they are just what you need.  If that doesn’t help, try these:^%22510B09002%22&QFieldYear=&QFieldMonth=&QFieldDay=&UseQField=pubnumber&IntQFieldOp=1&ExtQFieldOp=1&XmlQuery=&File=D%3A\ZYFILES\INDEX%20DATATHRU10\TXT0008\P1004436.txt&User=ANONYMOUS&Password=anonymous&SortMethod=h|-&MaximumDocuments=10&FuzzyDegree=0&ImageQuality=r75g8/r75g8/x150y150g16/i425&Display=p|f&DefSeekPage=x&SearchBack=ZyActionL&Back=ZyActionS&BackDesc=Results%20page&MaximumPages=1&ZyEntry=5

The above link provides a list of companies around the US that offer tank insurance.

This one you can call and give your zipcode, and they can tell you who might be able to help you in your area.

Here’s a place in New Jersey that offers tank insurance, but you might have to be a customer…  worth calling them though, if they can point you in the right direction.

Best of luck!
