Insurance Question from Lansing, MI

Asked on 10/16/2012

Can you get insurance for a car that’s been in an accident Had insurance. but now its not valid and i want to get it again but i had an accident.

Answer given on October 24, 2012

If you are trying to insure a car that is already damaged due to a previous accident, and you want physical damage (comprehensive and collision) you may find it difficult to find a company willing to insure the car until it is fixed. Some companies will insure a car that is damaged, but will want to see the car and possibly take photos of the existing damage. This will allow them to not pay for repairs if there is an accident and the damage is where the car is already damaged. You can buy only liability insurance on the car until it is fixed if you cannot find a company willing to insure the car for physical damage. If the accident you had was your fault, your insurance rates will include the accident surcharge on your insurance. If the accident was not your fault, there won’t be a surcharge, but it seems the other insurane company would have paid for the repairs to your car.
