Switching auto insurance and new company is asking for the declaration page fro the previous insurer. Why would they need that?

When applying for a new auto insurance policy, the new insurance company will want proof of previous insurance, so they can give the proper discount for having had car insurance. It is not unusual for an insurance company to ask for a copy of the previous policy. However, if your policy does not show him as a driver on the policy, there could be a problem with the discount and eligibility. See if then new company will have a problem with him not being named insured.Your son should talk to the new insurance agent or company and explain that he has been on your policy as a driver.Hopefully the insurance on his car was properly written. He would have needed to be shown as a named insured if the car was only in his name. If he was not named on the policy, hopefully you were on the title of his car at the time of the insurance. If not, there could have been a problem if he had been involved in a serious accident. Your current insurance agent or company should have been sure they understood the title and ownership of the car.
