If your car was involved in a claim for an accident, the car dealer is resposible to transfer the title. However, you must get the insurance placed on the new car. You are expected to call your insurance agent to put the insurance in force. If you are replacing a car, then you have 10-15 days to call your insurance agent. If it is a new car, you have 10-15 days to call the agent, and the insurance on the existing car will match the new car. However, you have to call your agent or broker. It is not the responsibility of the car dealer to get the insurance placed. While the car dealer should have told you about what was needed to be done, it is not their responsibility, as you should know that you need to call your insurance agent if you buy a new dar.
