Changing Insurance Agents I have the same coverage with the same insurance company but changed agents. The insurance company cancelled my exisiting policy, rewrote a new policy, then, charging for a "new state" fee of over $160 a year! Is the normal procedure when only changing agents?

Actually this is not typical. Some agents “own” their book of business. Therefore, if you change agents, some insurance carriers might require the policy to be cancelled and re-written by the new agent. But again, this is rare. It usually would happen if you wrote you policy with an independent agent. But normally, the insurance company would just re-assign to the new agent with new agents number or code for commission purposes. Not sure of what a “new State” fee would be. I would call the insurance company directly. Advise them that you have only changed agents and ask them to fully explain why you are being charge a “new state” fee when this is neither a new policy nor are you a new customer. Remember, you can always get a new quote on your insurance from another carrier that probably will not charge you $160 a year for a “new state” fee!
