Insurance Question from La Jolla, CA

Asked on 09/05/2016

are there any insurance policies that covers children bicycles and the liability that they may incur for running into and injuring another person? NULL

Answer given on September 28, 2016

Most homeowner insurance policies protect and defend the homeowner if he or a family member causes injuries or damages to someone else, including if done on a bicycle. The liability portion of the insurance policy would respond in case of such a loss. Minor children, usually under 14, are automatically covered, even if the damage or injury was intentional. Review your homeowner policy to see how the policy is set up for this.If you have already had an occurrence, contact your insurance company or agent to report the claim. They will walk you through the claim process and defend you. If medical coverage is or was needed, they will pay under either the medical payments coverage or under the liability limit of the homeowner policy. The policy will also cover an adult if there is an incident involving a bike, as long as it was not intentional.
