Consumer Complaint:

I changed insurance agent & carrier based on written quotation. After being billed the quoted cost of the policy and paying premium in full I was billed another $261 stating that the replacement cost was higher. I felt that NEW the replacement cost was too high (based on quotes from two other carriers) and asked my agent to resolve the issue and also requested a detailed explanation of what replacement cost detail was different from the original quotation that caused the added cost of $261. I never received this information but was informed by my agent that after discussions with MPIUA underwriter that the added premium should have only been $199. I reluctantly paid the $199 prior to the due date of the bill and since have received a notice cancellation. I am truly frustrated. The reason that I changed carriers is because of a similar issue with a different carrier last year.

The few choices are the Mass Insurance Department and your state legislators as the pool is a creature of the state.
