• Insurance Carrier: State Farm Insurance
  • State: AZ

Consumer Complaint:

Insurance agent asking for documents that we don’t have (original receipts, original documents, copies of monthly bank statements and savings account statements). They want my spouse and I to go under oath. What are our rights?

Insurance Expert Answer:

Assuming that State Farm is YOUR carrier -- which has a right to insist on your reasonable cooperation prior to paying a claim you make -- this suggests to me that that someone at State Farm believes your claim is fraudulent in whole or part.

If you are or have been in any financial distress or your home value has fallen significantly, that would double my concern. Our advice, see a local lawyer immediately -- yes, the lawyer will charge you -- and delay any communication with the insurance company until you do.
