what is a grant option?

Hi My company is still a private technology company and the are offering me 1500 shares. They are calling it a ‘grant option’ although I keep seeing in the print option to purchase, they are telling me that nothing is going to come out of my paycheck and that they are offering me these shares…… am I missing something?

There is no way to answer the question generically, since what you are entitled to, what you might have to pay, etc. is 100% determined by the terms of the written agreement. Ignore what they "tell" you--only go by the print, and if you have trouble understanding what the written agreement says, bring it to an attorney to review in detail with you.
