What activities constitute “doing business as”?

I have an LLC set up for a e commerce but would like to name the actual online store something different than the legal business name. For instance the legal business name is Generic Goods LLC but I title the online store Generic Goods Shop, if all of the sales transactions are processed as Generic Goods LLC, do I still need to file an assumed name for Generic Goods Shop since it is the title of the store?

You should register it as a trade name with the state in which the company is located and then consider registering in Delaware and other states in which you conduct business. Talk to a registered agent company to determine what the best route is for you. The reason is any assumed name is truly your dba and this is usually registered as a trade name. Talk to an intellectual property attorney about registering a trademark through the USPTO.  Consider also whether you need special license for the type of goods you sell.
