What is an employer’s responsibility to pay for traffic tickets incurred because a company vehicle had something wrong with it?

My husband worked for a transportation company and received 2 tickets worth $700 from the DOT because something was wrong with the truck. His boss took the tickets and said he would pay for them (not my husband). Now my husband no longer works there and has received a letter in the mail stating that the tickets have not been paid. If my husband does not pay, his license will be suspended. What should we do?

If your husband was the driver, he has to pay the tickets--that liability is his. If he does not pay, he will suffer the consequences.

If you and your husband believes that the tickets were due to something being wrong with the company vehicle, you could sue the company, including potentially in small claims court, for reimbursement: you could bring the suit on grounds of negligence and also breach of contract (agreement to pay for your husband).
