If my HOA took possesion of my home over unpaid fees but now the fees have been paid and the liens removed, how do I get possesion of my house back?

They have been renting the property and according to their attorney there is now a suplus in our account with them. Am I entitled to this money and how do I get possesion back.

In what way did they "take possession?"  Did they foreclose on the house because of the fees?  How legally did they do this?  You need to get a lawyer to figure this out.  It is very difficult to give guidance here with out knowing what happened and seeing the paperwork involved - and in speaking with their lawyer, which you should not do yourself.  Good luck.
