If my dog was killed and I was bitten by 2 pit bulls, can I sue the owners for vet and medical bills?

We were in our yard and the pits jumped over the fence and attacked my dog. He had to be put down because of how bad the injuries were. This would be the 4th or 5th time the dogs have harmed another dog but the1st to kill. I had to get antibiotics because my wound on my knee.

What a horrible incident.  I am very sorry to hear about your dog.  Yes, you are definitely entitled to compensation for all of your damages related to this incident incluidng medical bills and veterinary bills.  You are also entitled to compensation for the value of your dog.  For most pet owners, our dogs are invaluable. However, in most states dogs are considered property and their value is simply measured as their current market value, meaning what you would expect to pay for the dog if you were to buy him now or what you would expect to get for the dog if you were to sell him.
