If my boyfriend I have lived together for 5 years and he owes back taxes to the IRS, can our house be taken if it’s in my name only?

We live in a common law communiy property state. House has not been purchased yet but we have been given the option to do so. Want to make sure I wouldn’t lose it if things go badly for him with the IRS.

Under federal law as well as the laws of all states in this country, if legal title to the house that you are writing about and your boyfriend has no ownership interest in the home, your home cannot be taken away from you with respect to issues belonging to your boyfriend and not you. The reason is that he does not own the property and you do.
