What to do if my 62 year old wife stopped at a red light and was hit from behind?

She was hit at 50 miles per hour and her car was totaled. She now needs a knee relacement (she hit the dashbord), plus she has severe back pain (it will be been about a year by the time knee gets replaced and then 6 weeks of rehab). This has very hard for us, what with her injuries and 2 to 3 trips a week to the doctor for the last 8 months. What all can we claim; we want to know our options?

Before I can advise you, I need to know where the accident occurred, what communications have you had with the carrier, how much are your bills to date, does your wife have loss of income as a result, and how much are the limits of insurance for the at fault driver (if you know) and how much is your uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage?
