Money stolen at work

At my job I am required to shower in
and leave my street clothes behind, the
other day I left my wallet in my pants
pockets and over 100 was stolen, the
employer does not provide lockers even
though it has been requested many
times, and still refuses to provide
lockers even after many other has also
reported theft. I was never warned
about the theft from other until after
the money was stolen and my boss
refuses to investigate. I have two
questions really first if I call the
police and report the stolen money can
I get in trouble with my job, and
second wouldn’t it be considered
negligence since the employer has been
aware of the theft and refuses to take
action like provide lockers.

1) No, it's not negligence on the employer's part, because negligence requires a duty to do something or take some care, and an employer is not under a duty to offer or provide lockers. Also, you could look as this as if the loss was caused by your negligence: i.e. your carelessness in having that much cash on you, when you know your pants are unsecured.
2) If you don't have an employment contract, you are an employee at will, so you could be fired (or suspended, demoted, etc.) at any time, for any reason--including that the employer does not like you pushing for or causing an investigation.
So unfortunately, there most likely isn't anything you could do. If you ever find out who the thief was, you could press charges and could sue him or her.
