What constitutes employment discrimination?

I was a qualified applicant for a job and was in group to receive an interview. Another person went through the applications and mine was pulled out because an in-law of mine is employed there. However, no where on the application does it ask for this information nor does it state relatives are not eligible for hire. I was 1 of 2 top qualified applicants out of the 5 pulled for an interview.

Discrimination in the workplace has to do with lesser or differing treatment due to a person's race, religion, nationality, age (over 40), disability, gender, etc. Accordingly, your situation does not apply. The fact is that absent a written employment contract or union agreement to the contrary, a company can set the conditions of work much as it sees fit. This inlcudes who to hire or not, and why.
