Is there any case in being fired from a job because of a comment on social media?

I was fired today by a corporate restaurant because of a comment left on social
media. I was never asked any details on the commentmy side and have been
employed with the company for 12 years and the store I was at for almost six years,
have never had a disciplinary write up.

As a general rule, an employee can be fired for what they post on social media (unless it has to do with forming a union at work). The fact is that a company can set the conditions of employment much as it sees fit. Accordingly, your termination was lawful unless it violated the terms of a union contract or employment agreement.
