How do I know if my divorce is legal?

My husband served his divorce papers certified mail to his wife. He signed for them, he gave them to her. She never showed up to hearing. The judge gave him the divorce. They had not lived together over a year. This was 10 years ago. We were married 3 years ago. Is it a legal divorce? Am I legally married? Also, can she come after his pension if he dies? He gave her the house and everything he had he just walked out with his pension.

If his wife never showed up to court, then she "defaulted" and the judge was within his legal rights to issue the divocre. Absent other facts to the contrary, your marriage appears to be legal. To be certain, you can consult directly with a local divorce attorney.
