In LA there is no law giving an employee the right to inspect their personnel files. If the employee is a union member, however, they ,may have more rights (a shop steward or representative would know).  Additionally, a personnel file can almost always be reviewed during a grievance/discipline proceeding.

Since you do not have the right of review under state law, find out if your employer has a policy that allows employees to review their personnel files (check your employee manual and ask other employees). Even if there’s no such policy, it’s still worth asking. Sometimes asking verablly versus in writng is more effective.  Speak to HR or your supervisor.
