If my doctor wrote me a note with specific return date, can my employer make me come in before that date?

I had a problem with my blood pressure so had to leave work early. I went to the doctor’s and found out that my blood pressure meds was not working so I was put on another medicine. I was then told to go home, take my new medicine, lay down and not return to work until the next day. This was due to the side effects of new med and my being dizzy. I called my supervisor to inform her of everything and even sent a text to her of the doctor’s note. However, she told me that she didn’t care if I wanted to return to work on next day I have to bring doctor’s note to her today. I don’t drive so I couldn’t jump on bus to take it to her and my doctor told me do not get up out of bed with my pressure being so high. I have the note texted supervisor note. I want to know is that legal to have to take doctor note to her same day of doctor’s visit even though I had strict instructions from my doctor to rest the rest of day and returned the next day. I did return with note next day and was sent home for not bringing the doctor note the day before.

The fact is that a doctor 's note is not legally binding upon an employer. Accordingly they need not honor one if one is provided. That is unless not so honoring it violates the terms of an employment or union contract or in some way constitutes a form of actionable discrimination. The fact is that most work relationships are "at will". This means that a company can set the conditions of the workplace much as it sees fit.
