If I run a photography studio how can I protect myself from a lawsuit since I do not agree with same sex relations and therefore could not offer wedding photo services to such a couple?

It is most likely illegal to refuse service now. Refusal of services is a hot topic in today's services.  You may need to speak with an attorney in your state who has specific information and experience with these issues.  This is not necessarily about your right to refuse service as it is an issue of whether your refusal due to your religious beliefs is a violation of the law.
