Yes, they can potentially reach any life insurance proceeds (e.g. garnish them), because the student loan debt is your debt (not your father's, or even if he had co-signed, not solely your father's): creditors of a person can reach any life insurance proceeds he/she receives when the beneficiary is in default on a debt.
