Other party at fault wants me to pay half for not parking in the right place.

Good question. From what you have written, even though you may have been illegally parked in a handicap space, the illegal parking does not seem to have been a cause of the accident if in fact your car was not moving at all when the other car struck it causing damages.

Just because you may have been in the wrong for where you were parked it does not seem to have been the cause of the accident. As such, I do not see a basis for you having to be responsible for one-half of the damages to your vehicle if you were not driving it when the accident happened.

Good luck.
