How can I find out if my dad is still alive?

My dad and my brother live in one state and I live in another. Prior to my dad getting dementia, he made it clear that my brother (an attorney) and I were his only heirs. My brother obtained power of attorney and probably more since my dad’s illness. I have not been able speak to him for years since his illness. He is allegedly still in a nursing home, although, I do not know which one. My brother and his wife seldom let me know how he is doing unless I make the contact and then it’s usually the same story.

This does not sound like a situation that a lawyer can help you with, at this point. It sounds like you should just ask your brother where your father is. Ask for your dad's phone number. Ask for his address so you can send him a letter, or better yet, so you can visit. Visit your father. Then you can see with your own eyes that he is alive and how he is doing.
