What to do if I just purchased a used car couple hours ago and live 2 1/2 hours away but about 1 hour into the return trip home the engine light came on?

I would first take the vehicle that you just purchased to a reliable mechanic to have a diagnosis of it. Once received and assuming the vehicle has a serious problem with it, I would then contact the seller of the vehicle to discuss the situation and ways to resolve it either by return of the vehicle or reimbursement for the costs of repairs.
